also have some amazing breeds of cows, so let’s see the identified some
important Indian breeds of cows.

EXOTIC BREEDS (BOS TAURUS)

These cows are also called Wadad and Wadhiar cows. This
breed is known as the heavy breed of India. They are originated from Gujrat and
Rajasthan. Their horns are long and lyre-shaped. Their colour is silver grey or
steel black. It is valued for fast and powerful draft cattle. These cows of the
breed are most exported breed after 2016.

This breed is known as Nellore breed of cow world. This breed of cows is originated from Andhra
Pradesh. These cows are white to light grey in colour. This breed is a large
muscular breed and well-developed hump. These cows weigh 1000kg (Average). The
1st calving is done by the age of 38 – 45 months. The inter calving period of this breed is 470 days.

The breed is originated from Nashik, Maharashtra. The cows
of the breed have oily skin

This breed is originated from Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Their tail almost reaches to ground. They weigh usually 900kg. They are grey
white in colour with a darker shade on forequarters and hindquarters in male.
Adult females are more whitish in appearance.

Deccani and Surti. They are originated from Maharashtra and Karnataka. The breed
has 3 colour variation. Shevra (White body with irregular black spots.) Wannera
(White with black colour at the sides of the face) Balankya (Clear white with a black spot on the lower side of the body). Their legs have white marking below
the hocks like socks. They are Dehorning of the bullock is peculiar.

This breed is also called as Jallikattumandu, Kidaimadu,
Sentharai. These cows are originated from Tamilnadu. These breed of cows are
used for Jallikattu sport. These bulls are mainly used for penning in the
field, useful for ploughing. They are small in size usually green or dark green
in colour. They are well-developed hump. These breeds are active, useful
draught animal trotter but not fast.
DUAL PURPOSE BREED

These cows are also known as White Sindhi, Grey Sindhi,
Thari. These cows are originated from Rajasthan. They are developed from
Kankrej, Gir, Red Sindhi, Nagori, etc. They are quite suitable for ploughing
and casting. Their horn is lyre-shaped. They are medium-sized, compact body
shape. Their colour is white or light grey. Their average yield is 1800 – 2600 kg
Milk/Lactation. Their age of 1st calving is 38 – 42 month. Their inter calving period is 430 – 460 days.

This breed is originated Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and
Rajasthan. Their horns are small. Their average weight is 600 – 800 kg. Their age
of 1st calving is 40 – 60 months. Their calving interval is 480 –
630 days.

This breed is originated from Solapur, Sitapur, Maharashtra
and Karnataka. They closely resemble Hallikar breed. They are grey –
white in colour. Their long horns turn forwards in a peculiar fashion. Their
horns are generally black, sometimes pinkish. They are used for bullocks, fast
and powerful.

as Kongu and Konganact. Their eyes are dark and prominent with black rings
around them. Their coat is red at birth but changes to grey at about 6 months
of age. Bulls are grey with dark colour in hump fore and hindquarter. Their
horns are spread apart, nearly straight with slight curve backwards. The cow of
the breeds are cows are grey/white.

This breed is originated from Tamilnadu. These cows are also
known as Jathimadu, Mottaimadu, Molaimadu, Therkathimadu. They are suitable for
wet ploughing and known as for their strength and sturdiness. They are
red/brown at birth with white marking on the face, on limbs and tail.
DRAFT PURPOSE BREED

This breed is originated from Karnataka. They have the trotting
ability. Their horns are strong. They are grey to dark grey. Their body is a compact muscular and medium-size animal with a prominent head.

These cows were developed by rulers of Mysore state bet
(1572 – 1636 A.D). These cows/bull were earlier used for transportation for
army equipment. They were earlier called as Benne Chawadi renamed by Tipu
Sultan as Amritmahal. This breed of cows is originated from Karnataka. Their
muzzle, feet and tail are usually black. Their horns are long and end in sharp
black points. They are Grey cattle but their shade varies from almost white to
near black.

These cows are also called as Malir (Baluchistan), Red
Karachi, Sindhi. These cows are originated from the Pakistani state of Sind. They
are rich red in colour but can vary from a yellowish-brown to dark brown. The
males of the breed are darker than females. Cows are 116cm in height and 340kg
in weight. They give 1700kg of milk after suckling and 3400kg of milk in
optimum condition. They are lethargic (lazy) in bullocks.

This breed is originated from Punjab and Rajasthan. This
breed is known as the best Indian breed. They are known as Lola (loose skin)
Montgomery, Multani, Lambi, Teli, Zebu breed. They are 1400 – 2500kg in weight.

This breed is originated Gujarat. They are known for
hardiness, heat resistance and high milk yield. They are known as Bhadawari of
cow world, Desan, Gujarati, Kathiawari, Sorthi and Surti. Their horns are
curved (half-moon). They are hardiness and disease resistance. They are 1200 –
1800kg in weight. They are used in phule Triveni.
